WHAT PSALM BRINGS YOU JOY?!

As I am sitting and contemplating what to write and share, I realize…sometimes the simplest is the best. Why not share a little about which Psalm brings me joy! It was kind of hard to just pick one, because there are SOOO many good Psalms to go to. The abundance of Psalms that are written and included in the Bible is just amazing! But as I took some time to sit with the Lord, I realized that there was one that has been pretty prominent in my walk with the Lord. It’s also a part of my testimony in many different seasons of my life. Specifically, Psalm 46:10 has been a reoccuring reminder to me, time after time and season after season, to fix my eyes on God and who He is. It’s the one verse that reminds me in the midst of trials, joy, sadness, chaos…whatever it is, you name it…that calms me, that humbles me, that reassures me, that comforts me.

I’ve had two memorable moments where the Lord spoke clearly through this Psalm. One time was when I had been contemplating what God’s purpose was for me, which eventually led me to being here on the World Race. And the other time was when my father had first been hospitalized back in November 2019. I remember like it was yesterday and listening to the song titled “Psalm 46 Lord of Hosts” by Shane & Shane one evening as I was sitting in the hospital waiting room. I just remember flipping to Psalm 46 in the bible as the song was playing. And then receiving a text from a friend with the same song. Just really amazing how the Holy spirit works in moments like this.

Whenever I read this Psalm, I am humbled to see the attributes of who God is as he is likened to a fortress that remains the same from since Jacob and anyone before him. The might and power of God is displayed through the use of words like “He utters his voice, the earth melts” and many others like “He makes wars cease”, “A present help in trouble”. Whenever I read this Psalm, I’m reminded that I’m not in control, and that’s a relief. I’m reminded that God is sovereign and knows everything and is much stronger, and he is able to handle everything. This thought brings me joy, because…I don’t know about others but…when I try operating in my own power, or strength things just get chaotic. Nothing really ever goes as it should in my book, or I end up becoming overwhelmed, stressed, unfulfilled, unsatisfied. When that happens, I tend to make unwise choices either from a sense of urgency, or without the consultation of God.

Take a moment to read through the Psalm for yourself and see what the Lord reveals. I’d love to know if you have a Psalm that brings you joy. If so, I’d love to hear about why you love it, and what the Lord has taught you through it.

PSALM 46

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at it’s swelling. Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Come behold the works of the Lord, how he has brought desolations on the Earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the Earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted on the earth!” The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Just wanted to include the lyrics to Psalm 46 Lord of Hosts by Shane & Shane. I encourage you to give this a listen to as well. It’s such a great song that has been encouraging in the tough times, but also during the happiest & joyous seasons of my life.

PSALM 46 – Lord of Hosts (Shane & Shane)

Oh, come behold the works of God, the nations at His feetHe breaks the bow and bends the spearAnd tells the wars to cease
Oh, mighty One of Israel, You are on our sideWe walk by faith in God who burns the chariots with fire
Lord of Hosts, You’re with usWith us in the fireWith us as a shelterWith us in the stormYou will lead usThrough the fiercest battleOh, where else would we goBut with the Lord of Hosts
Oh, God of Jacob, fierce and greatYou lift Your voice to speakThe earth, it bowsAnd all the mountains move into the sea
Oh Lord, You know the hearts of menAnd still you let them liveOh God, who makes the mountains meltCome wrestle us and winOh God, who makes the mountains meltCome wrestle us and win
Though oceans roar, You are the Lord of allThe One who calms the wind and waves and makes my heart be stillThough the earth gives way, the mountains move into the seaThe nations rage, I know my God is in control
You are with us(With us in the fire) (Fire)(With us as a shelter)With us in the storm(You will lead us)Through the fiercest battle(Oh, where else could we go)But with the Lord of Hosts
